The Enemy Within Prologue: Morrslieb Rising! (Session 1)
On Friday the 16th of January 2026, I started running the Enemy Within.
This post is a write up of session 1 of the campaign.
Dramatis Personae
Diethart Drechsler
Diethart is a mercenary light cavalryman who began his career under the banner of Trott's Marauders. He was part of a small contingent of light cavalry that had been hired by a merchant named Rudolf Schneider, who was making the trip though blackfire pass to trade in the boarder princes. Little does he know that he figures in the plans of the great architect.
Erik Kleinsen
A boatman, who got his start crewing for Josef Quartjin. An Altdorfer by birth; Erik is loosely associated with the Fish and has some connections up and down the Reik.
Connie Uhl
Connie's was raised by Sisters of Sigmar in the Altdorf. She has been told that her mother died when she was 3, and that her illegitimate father paid for her to be raised by the Sisters. However, Connie has turned from the life of service planned for her, and spent much of her formative years as a thief on the streets of Altdorf. She has met here father only a couple of times since childhood, and knows him to be a powerful noble from Ubersreik.
What has gone before
In the late autumn of 2511, the vagabonds joined up with a late summer caravan heading south through blackfire pass in a desperate attempt to beat the winter snows before the pass was blocked. While in the employ of the caravan master, Rudolf Schneider, the vagabonds were each badly injured in a Goblin Raid. Due to these injuries, the Vagabonds were left to heal at an abbey in Grenzstadt.
Once the Vagabonds recovered, they set off to return to the reikland, which brings up to sunset Hexensnacht.
Eventually they discover a pub named the Reaver's return, practically beat down the door, and demand they be allow in. The Publican, one Annie Spaziergänger, gives into the demands, and given the choice of private room, or the floor of the bar room, the vagabonds fiscally parsimonious urges win out, and they sleep on the floor in front of the embers of the fire. In so doing, though they know it not, avoiding the visit of a night-time burglar.
The next morning, checking their collective wealth, the vagabonds head to the Reiks Platz in search of work.
There they find a wide variety of job offers pinned to a great wooden pole. The problem of course being that none of the band can read or write, so they must turn one of the many milling scribes and students, who fleece the masses for the reading of messages. The reader they settle upon is one Rosa Liebknecht, a student radical, who uses the work as opportunity encourage the learners to attend literacy lessons organised by nescient PLANT chapter here in Nuln.

Session 1: Morrslieb Rising!
Hexensnacht 2511
After setbacks on the river Aver, the Vagabonds arrive in Nuln half an hour before Sunset and are, without ceremony, turfed off the barge that has brought them this far. The Vagabonds set about trying to find an inn. Uniformally, the inns they approach in the docks are closed up already for the night, or full, so they must strick further into the city.
Alas time is not on their side, so perhaps rashly, when a tout offers to lead them to an inn; they take him up on it. The ambush however, is inexpertly set, and the Vagabonds spot it before triggering it, and run off down a side alley before they can be set upon and robbed.
However, in their flight, they become quiet lost, and a forced to wander for sometime in the greasy rain beneath the light of Morrslieb, which leaves Diethart feeling quiet queer with is solemn beauty.

1st of Nachexen 2512
The next morning, checking their collective wealth, the vagabonds head to the Reiks Platz in search of work.

The reader they settle upon is one Rosa Liebknecht, a student radical, who uses the work as opportunity encourage the learners to attend literacy lessons organised by nescient PLANT chapter here in Nuln.
Rosa Liebknecht is able to provide information regarding a number of opportunities, including a lost dog, civic engineering work, lost earrings, and a local butcher in need.
The Vagabonds settle on the butcher, Herr Fleischer . However, they miss remember the address, and end up talking to Marguerite Garten, the neighbour of the butcher, and from her learning of a night time crooner who has been singing for Herr Fleischer's daughter's attention.
Escaping the Frau Garten's attentions the Vagabonds arrive at Herr Fleischer's door and knock...which is where the session ended.
Each of the Vagabonds earned 50xp, and not short term ambitions were met. This is in part because my players have so far been a little remiss in setting ambitions.
As keen eyed observers will have noted, this is not the usual start of the enemy within. Rather, I am opening with a mash up of the Oldenhaller Contract and Sing for your Supper. This is to help establish a number of NPCs for later in the campaign such as Albrect Oldenhaller.
