The Enemy Within Prologue: Mostly drinking... (Session 5)

 

Session 5: Mostly drinking...

On the 13th of Febuary 2026 I ran the Fifth session of my home Enemy Within Campaign.

 Evening, 1st of Nachexen, 2512

Confronted with what appears to be a human leg in the half-light, Erik rushes in, only to find that the leg in in fact Albrechte's Prosthesis. Turning to Hanna's amulet, Erik is able to confirm that the locket is Hanna's. 

Over at Rudi's room; Connie continues her search. Amongst the mans belongings she discovers a sheet of greasy paper, with writing on, and is able to get Wolfgang and Leopold to read it for her, revealing that the paper was the wrapping for a gift from Emil Stark to Rudi, that was given as an apology for Emil's behaviour at a party hosted by Herr Fleischer.

Before Diethart leaves Chez Louis,  he digs a little deeper into the recent jewellery thefts. Identifying who was working when the thefts happened. The list includes a Phillipe, Heinrich, Little Heinrich (who is ironically very large), and Greta, who isn't here tonight, but rather is working over at the Gunner's arms.

Erik searches the rooms thoroughly, and is able to identify the means of entry, a hatch in the roof, the metal frame of which is rusted so that it does not close properly. This hatch lead up into the crawl space above the shed, and to another hatch to the outside that is unlocked.

Connie returns to the gunner's arms with the soldier's and almost immediately regrets it as the dog mod arrives lead by Rosa Liebknecht. Before Connie leaves by the back door. 

The group make their way to the reaver's return, meeting up. But thanks to a tip on a better inn from Louis, they decide not to stay another night there. Instead they heads to The Emperor Magnus the Pious (on of about ten pubs by that name in nuln). Over more than a few beers, they shared all they had learned and theorised before heading to bed.

We will pick up at 7am 2nd of Nachexen, 2512, with a consume alcohol check to see how they faired last night. The news of events in Ubersreik will arrive and start to spread in Nuln on the 6th.


Not a lot happened unfortunate. we were running late, there was a lot of socialising, and then Angie, the player of Erik, started to feel a little unwell. 

Very little got done so we went with a 75xp. No short term ambitions were achieved, and no character backgrounds were expanded on.

Planning: Travel out of Nuln (part 1)

Choices, choices... The start of Enemy in Shadows is hundreds of miles from where the Vagabonds find themselves right now. The reason for this? Well I'd like to establish some NPCs, let the players get to grips with their  PCs and play though a few classics before they get stuck in.   But there is another reason. The enemy within, especially, Enemy in Shadows, pretty linear.  I'd like to increase the level of agency in the campaign as a whole, and a good starting point is to give them choice about the routes they take. Sure, they will end up walking though the mud, on the road from Delbren towards altdorf...but how they get there will be there will be a series of meaningful choices. The first step is getting them out of Nuln, destined either for Altdorf or Ubersreik. Planning: Travel out of Nuln (part 3)

 Keep rolling, rolling, rolling... Onto the Ubersreik. The Vagabonds have a bit more  choice here. While the Tilean song-bird has a  preference for taking the stage coach, she is not wed  to the idea, and if the Vagabonds are agents of Herr  Oldenhaller, it is up to them to choose between stage  and barge. So first of all, we'll cover the stage coach route. Nuln to Konigsdorf  (60 miles. +1 Fatigue) It is bright brisk day as you set out on the road from Nuln to Konigsdorf. The fetter of the city leaves you in its wake quickly, the carriage thunders along some of the best roads in the empire.
