Altdorf; and then to Delbren (Part 1)

Upon their arrival in Altdorf, our Vagabonds will still have a some time before they need to be at the Coach and Horses on the 25th of  Jahrdrung 2512.

Given that the Vagabonds are likely to arrive in Altdorf around the 12th of Nachexen. Meaning the Vagabonds have about 35 days. Five imperial weeks and change.

However, 7 days of this is required to get the vagabonds to Delbren, and then the coach and horse from altdorf, so almost a week of that time is needed to get the PCs into position at the Coach and Horses.

That leaves 4 weeks to play with

My aims

There are a number of things I want to achieve with this time. This includes:
  • Downtime
  • Embed character backstory here for each vagabond.
  • Establish Villains for later in the campaign
  • Establish weirdness in the City.
  • Send the PCs running from AltdorfSend the PCs running from Altdorf
  • Provide Choice to the players about how they get to the Coach and Horses

Downtime

I'd like the Vagabonds to have a chance to undertake down time.

This has a number of benefits:
  • It provides some verisimilitude to their progression within their new career
  • A chance to change career if they don't like their current career.
  • It gives them a chance to undertake some endeavours .
As such I will assign three weeks of downtime, which give them opportunity to do some things before starting on their next adventure.

Characters with histories

During the Downtime I can pepper in a number of opportunities to explore elements of character backstory.

Diethart

Diethart has a history as one of the Sabres of Glory, a unit of light cavalry who operate under the auspice of Trott's Marauders. Bruno Seltz a sergeant in the The Sabres of Glory, and Diethart's direct superior, is in Altdorf under Absolem Trott's command stirring up riots in response to events in Ubersreik.

Bruno is a hard drinking mercinary; full of brittle Bonhomie punctuated by brooding. Bruno is a big part of why Diethart got out of the Sabres, because it was clear that Bruno will never be able to, and Diethart knew further fighting might make him like Bruno.

I want to have a scene where Diethart get to see or participate in some of the first subtle stabs of the civil war.

Erik

The Isle of Eels is Erik's childhoods home. He still has extended family there, as well as connections to the Fish and P.L.A.N.T.

I'll want to explore something relating to this.

Connie

Connie's from Ubersreik. A bastard daughter of Graf Sigismund von Jungfreud, she was raised near at hand until she was 11, when she was sent north to Altdorf, to be apprenticed to the cult of Sigmar. However she ran off and took to a life of crime.

I'll want to use the downtime to explore her relationship with the cult of Sigmar on screen.

Establish Villains

Sister Brunhilde Von Holzkrug

I need to run a scene to establish Sister Brunhilde, and the Order of the Golden Boar, for the role they will play later.

Yann Zuntermein

I need to establish Zuntermein and the role of the Black Chamber in the wider conspiracy, so that later, he can play the part of an excellent primary villain.

Establish Weirdness

I need to come up with material that helps to set the stage for something being wrong in the city. To this end I will come up with some material to help establish the strangeness, and some of the campaign themes

Send the PCs running from Altdorf

I need something that will really scare the characters, and keep them out of the capital for the foreseeable future, as well as establish elements of later sections of my enemy withing...so, enter the security services!

Run Rabbit, run!

In the early hours of the morning, a small team of lamplighters from the blackchamber break into Connie's lodging and try to capture the thief and bastard daughter of Graf Sigismund von Jungfreud.

Unfortunately for Herr Holswig-Schliestein; Yann Zuntermein wants to keep Connie in play for now, and has arranged for the team to be loaded with inexperienced lamplighters and purple hand cultists briefed to herd Connie to him, so that he can send her out into the world, with a good impression of him. After all, one day, he may need someone of Jungfreud blood...

Escape routes

Lastly.. I need to come up with at least two pathways out of the city by coach or riverboat.

With the basic planning done, I can start getting into the details...
